"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets."
Matthew 7:7-12
Why is it so difficult for people to believe that God is good?
Why do most people see God as distant and cruel? Unfortunately, we have moved God away from our lives. We want to live on our own and we often get along very badly for our bad choices. And then we blame God. Or if something gets out of control and everything goes wrong, then we remember God and ask for help, and we still want it to be resolved immediately.
We need to know how to talk to God, we need to learn how to depend on Him and be in His presence. God has several promises of prosperity and peace for us in His word, but we must learn how to depend on Him to be blessed. And who else could know how to bless us better than the Father who raised us and knew us even before we were born? Who else could understand our deepest needs and desires? Who else could know our story from beginning to end and give us the end we want?
The Lord knows that through our own strength and will, we cannot change by ourselves, but He promised us through Jesus that whoever believes in Him and repents wholeheartedly and surrender the heart to Him, He would send His Holy Spirit and He Himself would be dwelling in us and teaching us the way to follow and helping us to change.
